A few thoughts as I’m walking to school:
I am happiest/most content when there is fresh air in my lungs, the sun is shining, and I have friends and family to go home to. Good day, good work, and something to look forward to.
I like my little town, it’s good to live here, and it is MY town. I’ll be here 7 months, it’s cute and beautiful when the sun is shining and people are walking their dogs and sitting eating at outdoor restaurants.
I like that the teachers ask ME questions, my opinion and follow my lead. It’s fun and flattering. (Though so far, it’s really been mainly one. :/... well, maybe two... :)) Everyone’s complementing me on my teaching style, my accent, my clarity. One congratulated me on keeping her boys quieter than they’ve been all year (difficult, ‘tech’ boys) and I don’t know what to do with this. I like too many things, a teacher’s salary not being one of them... but leadership may be in my future. I feel really content when I’ve had a good class... I don’t know... :/ Working with kids, humanitarianism, leadership, international relations/travel...?
So, I’ve discovered that I’m quite the good cook. :) I never thought I’d be one of those people who could just look in the fridge and whip up something fantastic, having worked with recipes all my life. But so far, our dinners have been: an amazing fresh ham & cheese omlette, tasty tomato onion chicken, curry beef rice noodle stir fry, and curry potato chicken. Yen says I can cook, now I can get married. :) (It’s a saying in Venezuala.) Well then, so that’s what I’ve been waiting for. ;)
I’ve been feeling sick again and it’s because I’ve had 7 early mornings in a row, and haven’t been drinking any water, so, my body’s taking a beating. Today though, we walked to the super-U again - our favourite pasttime :) - and our little town was really beautiful just before sundown. Brisk air, honey sunlight & pink houses, picturesque. After that, we went to Violet - a spanish teacher’s - house, to pick up some things Yen had ordered from her catalouge, and she lives in a cute little apartment with her adorable daughter who’s smart & mild mannered & curious, & speaks catalan that rolls off her tongue. She’s a precocious one, and Violet so hospitable. We had some of her tomato tart, and chatted a bit about culture and language. She teaches catalan as well as spanish, and is a darling. Everyone here is so generous and warm, their houses cozy and small. Life everywhere is what you make it... for the most part. I want some of this warmth in my future. It’s quaint, intimate & wholesome. A healthy way to be.
Jen’s neighbours are crazy - the same ones that took us to town & took care of us, have pot-smoking friends, cause a raucous for her by day & today he threw his underwear through her window. Eiy yeiy. Some things are universal. I thought pot was a vancouver thing. ;)
